Re: ELECTRIC POWER CONTROL ORDER: PERMISSION
                    FOR INCREASED CONSUMPTION OF ELECTRICITY
FOR THE NEW AGE PRINTING PRESS.

Sir,
In pursuance of the conversation I had with you, I for-
ward this application for favour of prompt and sympathetic
disposal by you.

The New Age Printing Press, situated at 190 B, Khetwadi
Main Road is owned by the Communist Party of India.

It prints the Party's organ, the "People's War" in five
languages, English, Marathi, Gujerati, Hindi and Urdu. It
also prints all the books and pamphlets for the People's
Publishing House, the Communist Party's Publishing concern.

As you will see all the three, the paper, the Publishing
House and the Press have as their main aim, the rallying of
our people for patriotic defence and support of the war
against the Fascists.

As the Press is unable to cope with the rush of work
necessitated by the acute economic and political conditions
in our country, we have bought a Lino Machine which is to be
fitted up by the end of this month.

I request you to grant us a certificate of Essentiality
to the New Age Printing Press.

        All that we want is:

1. Permission for installation of a 2 B.P.H.Motor in our pre[ss]
2. Permission to have a 20 Amperes Meter in place of the 10
Amperes meter that we have at present.

As you will see, the increased consumption we have asked
for is very small but it will facilitate bringing out pub-
lications of the kind and nature mentioned above.

It is true that certain expressions of opinion by us in
our paper is looked upon with disfavour by the Government,
but the biggest single fact remains that the Communist Party
is the only patriotic party in India that has throughout the
year 1942-43, practically done a great deal to turn people
away from attacking our defences. It is the only party that
places a positive, constructive and patriotic policy of
national defence and national unity before the people.

                                                Very
